About Our School
Vallemar School is a K-8 school in Pacifica with a rigorous program focused on academics. We are proud of our historically high test scores and that the majority of our students continue on to colleges and universities. Classes are taught by excellent teachers who create an environment that encourages students to excel. A buddy program among upper and lower grade levels encourages partnerships throughout the school and a sense of of family among students.
The class size is approximately 20 students in grades K-3 and 32 students in grades 4-8.
Vallemar School has a modern library and computer lab and also uses a variety of technology as learning tools in the classroom. In addition, students at our school are given the opportunity to participate in the Music Program- funded by the Rob Schnieder Music Foundation.
Parent Involvement
Valllemar parents are known for being active, involved, and committed parents. The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is an integral part of Vallemar School’s success, contributing input and resources that have made it possible for the school to implement and/or restore programs and facilities not available through the district.
All parents are encouraged to volunteer in the school for a minimum of 10 hours each year in some capacity. Parent participation in the classroom is determined by each teacher. Volunteer opportunities may include helping in the school library, computer lab, PE/Psychomotor, or with classroom craft projects, chaperoning on field trips, giving special interest presentations to classes, etc. Parents are also encouraged to help in the many volunteer activities coordinated by the PTO.
Vallemar parents are also expected to help at home by providing an atmosphere in which learning is obviously valued, by supporting the efforts of their child and teacher, and by providing a time and place for homework. Parents are expected to sign a commitment with the school upon registration, which indicates their support of the concepts, rules and procedures of Vallemar School.
Frequent communication exists between parents and staff both in person, by phone, and by email. The recent addition of Snapgrades for middle school students allows families to access information about grades, homework, and assignments by going online at home. Progress reports, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences keep parents up-to-date on student progress throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to bring questions and concerns to the teachers or principal. School and parent communication, as well as single grade classes, help our students excel.
Above & Beyond at Vallemar
Students are regularly recognized for good citizenship, receiving praise certificates, and awards. Achievements in both academic and citizenship are formally recognized at each report card period, awarding students a place on the honor roll or merit roll. Lists are displayed in the main office.
Science is very important at our school, as evidenced by our recent recognition as a K. Russell Kent Award Winner for our unique Calera Creek Education Program. Fifth grade students enjoy one week of experiential learning at Outdoor Education and Sixth grade students learn about the environment and sustainable living during a one week program at Camp Arroyo.
