We use the Writer's Workshop model in our classrooms. Every day, we begin with a 10 minute whole group mini lesson. We concentrate on one specific standard that the class needs. Then, the students write for 35-40 solid minutes. During this writing time, students may be involved in one of the following: peer conferencing, one on one teacher conferencing, pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, or publishing. They choose their own topics, and may write on one paper for an extended period of time. The last 10 minutes of Writer's Workshop are spent using the 'Authors Share'. Several students a day will sit in the Author's Chair and share their stories. The other students will make comments and/or suggestions for the author.
